Yellow Flag Status Effective December 28, 2024
Hey Summerside!
Wow, how amazing has the weather been lately? We’ve got some exciting news to share! Starting TODAY, December 28, 2024, the lake is officially open for foot traffic and ice fishing only—no skating just yet. This means YELLOW flags are going up!
Yellow flag status indicates a potential elevated risk when using the lake. While the lake is open, we strongly encourage everyone to check the SSRA website before heading out for the latest updates on conditions. It’s essential to exercise caution and discretion both before and during your time on the ice.
Please remember to follow all fishing rules and regulations. If you need a refresher or haven’t yet completed the Acknowledgment Form, you can find it on our website under Reservations > Fishing Rules & Acknowledgment Form.
Although the ice is currently thick enough to support foot traffic and ice fishing, we are still 3–4 inches away from safely using machines to prepare the skating surfaces. Our Parks Team continues to monitor ice conditions closely, but please remember that ice safety can change quickly due to weather and other factors. If you observe large cracks, standing water, or holes larger than those made by an auger, please leave the ice immediately and report the issue to the SSRA. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we prioritize everyone’s safety.
For those unfamiliar with our flag system, the yellow flag signals an increased need for vigilance while enjoying the lake. You can check the lake’s current status anytime at www.lakesummerside.ca > Flags > Current Status.
Stay safe, stay informed, and enjoy the season!
